Canadian Snowbirds

Within the Canadian retiree market is a segment of consumers who have been uniquely identified as higher-income earners, who have made a conscious decision to winter in the U.S. Sunbelt areas, thus allowing them to stay active year 'round. It is these "snowbirds" who are also in need of more products and services than the average Canadian senior. Most snowbirds own two properties, one in a sunbelt destination and one in Canada. More than 750,000 Canadian snowbirds migrate to the southern U.S. each winter for an average of 4.7 months, predominantly in Florida, California, Arizona and Texas.

American Winter Residents
Millions of American winter residents also call the Sunbelt states "home" for up to six months of the year each winter, from October to April. The fact that this group has the ability to spend an extended period of time in the south demonstrates that they comprise an unusually affluent and mobile segment of the population. Almost five million American winter residents migrate south each winter.

Winter residents hail from all over the United States, but primarily from:

NewYork Pennsylvania Ohio Illinois Connecticut North Dakota
New Jersey Michigan Indiana Minnesota Massachussets Washington
